Three things to know
- Hiring equipment is not the same as ordering completed work.
- Compare hire or work together with transport and handling.
- Allocate responsibility for soil and site finishing.

Compare the completed result
If you want a particular excavation or prepared area, compare the cost of the entire required result. For hire, consider transport, the operator and hire conditions as well as the rental charge. For contracted work, check the activities actually included. SORTI provides operated equipment for an agreed job; that does not imply a separate self-drive hire service.
A comparison checklist: the same items on both sides
On one side, list machine hire and delivery, agreed attachments, fuel under the offer's conditions and machine return. Ask about time charging, deposits, damage liability, insurance and restrictions. Do not infer these conditions from another hire company's price list.
On the other side, list the work proposal: equipment transport, operator, defined excavation scope, handling, removal and finishing. Identify what you must still arrange yourself under either option. Only then are you comparing similar results; without actual prices, neither option automatically wins.

| Question for the quote | Equipment hire | Contracted earthworks |
|---|---|---|
| What are you ordering? | The machine and the conditions of its provision. | Explicitly defined work and its handover. |
| Who operates the machine? | This needs separate clarification. | Confirm that an operator is included. |
| What about transport and operation? | Check delivery, return and operating conditions. | Check equipment transport and how work is charged. |
| Who deals with the soil? | Hiring a machine alone does not arrange loading and removal. | Include these only within the confirmed scope of the quote. |
| What happens if an obstacle is found? | Clarify conditions for continued use and return. | Clarify approval of changes to scope and price. |
Operator experience belongs in the decision
Controlling a machine and assessing work in a confined area are different skills. SÚIP's guidance emphasises construction machinery operator competence; in a workplace context, it also addresses familiarisation with the particular machine and its use. This guide is not a summary of every private hirer's legal duties.
If you are unsure about the method, space or excavation conditions, compare hire with professionally carried out work too. The particular machine's conditions, instructions and site matter more than a promise that anyone can learn to use an excavator in a few minutes.

An excavator alone does not resolve soil handling or access
Excavation also requires space for material and any loading. A narrow garden may call for moving soil to the truck, changing the sequence or using additional equipment. Describe these requirements before choosing hire or contracted work.
Check the whole route from the access road as well. Surfaces, turns, height restrictions and manoeuvring space can change equipment deployment. Neither excavator delivery nor a truck should be assumed included unless the quote says so.
Two situations for a fair comparison
One client has the documents ready, an experienced operator and soil storage arranged. They can request a suitable machine hire quote and compare complete costs with contracted work. Another needs a trench in a finished garden and does not know where the soil can go. For that client, execution and handling need clarifying first.
These are not actual projects or promises about speed. The difference lies in readiness, responsibilities and what will be complete at the end. Also ask who decides when an obstacle is found and how changes in scope or an extended booking are approved.
What you are enquiring about with SORTI
On odkopem.cz, you arrange earthworks using our equipment to a specific brief. The website lists JCB excavators in the 2.5 t and 5 t classes; suitability and any additional equipment are confirmed for the site. These details do not imply a separate equipment hire business.
For a quote, send the municipality, dimensions, access photographs and soil information. Explain whether you want digging only or also loading and removal. Petr Mašín will discuss the work scope with you. This guide provides neither hire rates nor a promise of an unoperated machine.
Frequently asked questions
Is hire always cheaper?
You cannot say without complete offers. Include transport, operation, work you must arrange yourself and handling; compare the same completed scope.
Do you hire out excavators without an operator?
This guide concerns ordering earthworks. It does not present self-drive hire as a confirmed product; discuss any specific request directly.
Must I choose the excavator size beforehand?
No. Send the project and access details. Equipment selection can be agreed once dimensions and site conditions are understood.
How can I compare quotes if one includes only the machine?
Add what remains to be arranged under both options and define the required finished result. Missing operation, transport or removal may mean a different scope, not merely a different price.
Would you like a quote for completed work?
Describe the result, available documents and anything you will arrange yourself. We will clarify the work with equipment, handling and any removal.
