Three things to know
- Follow the chosen pool's instructions.
- Earthworks, a finished base and installation are different things.
- We accept small above-ground pool jobs too.

Start with the chosen pool's instructions
Choose the actual pool and send its site preparation instructions. Looking level does not itself establish a suitable base. Distinguish ground alteration, any preparation of specified layers and pool installation. You can enquire about a small area on its own; we first assess access and a sensible execution method from photographs and documents.
Mark the whole area required, not just the water footprint
Prepare a plan showing pool dimensions and space for supports, use and equipment according to the instructions. Add filtration equipment and required surrounding access. The nominal pool size may not represent the entire area needing preparation.
Photograph the location from several sides and include wider views of the house, fence and trees. Identify changes in ground level, older fill or previous excavation. Obstacles outside the footprint matter for the quote too, because they affect access and soil handling.
A surface that looks level is not proof of a suitable base
Beneath grass there may be original ground, old fill, a backfilled utility trench or differently treated soil. Acknowledge those differences during preparation. If you have doubts about the base or location, have the solution's suitability assessed before ordering work.
If cutting ground away or adding material creates the area, the target level and required result must be clear beforehand. Randomly filling one side is no substitute for that decision. If the site needs a retaining structure or slope intervention, preparation requires a separate specialist design; this guide does not describe that process.
Separate earthworks, a finished base and installation
Removing turf and levelling may only be the first stage. Explicitly agree who supplies and processes specified materials and who accepts the prepared area before pool installation. Avoid 'prepare everything' without a defined outcome.
State whether you want excavation and removal only or further work to the supplied documents. We accept small above-ground pool jobs too. Scope and timing are confirmed for the location and access. Levelling does not automatically include pool supply, installation or electrical work.

| Part of the brief | What to attach or identify | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Location and model | Instructions, plan and total space required | Suitability of the location and base requirements |
| Earthworks | Target level, area boundaries and known ground condition | Scope of stripping, excavation or other alterations |
| Materials and removal | Specifications from the documents and a soil plan | What stays, what leaves and what is delivered |
| Handover | The next contractor and how readiness is checked | The specific result before the next stage |
Plan access, removal and the pool surroundings
Add the narrowest access width, turns and photographs of the entire machine route. Consider soil storage, loading positions and where materials can be unloaded. A small finished area does not necessarily mean equally small access and handling requirements.
Prepare utility and other buried-object information before earthworks. Order subsequent specialist tasks, including equipment electrical connections, from the relevant contractors. Also consider surrounding activity and water handling during maintenance according to local conditions and the instructions.
A short enquiry that explains even a small area
'I would like site preparation for an above-ground pool in [municipality]. The model and complete instructions are attached. Document [reference] shows the total footprint, including supports. I need [specific earthworks, removal and any further preparation]. Access is shown in the photographs. Installation follows with [who and when]; [contact] will accept the prepared area. Unknown details are [list].'
If you change the chosen pool, supply new documents before confirming work. A similar diameter or water capacity does not establish the same footprint or model requirements. Explain what around the pool must be retained. Accepting small jobs does not promise a price, date or suitability of every access route; those points are confirmed against your brief.
What affects price and whether machinery is appropriate
Actual level changes, base condition, access, handling and removal affect complexity. Equipment transport also forms part of a smaller job. Pool size alone is therefore not enough for a price or a decision on the appropriate method.
For an initial assessment, send the municipality, model and manufacturer's documents, preferred date and photographs including access. Explain what is ready and precisely what you need. That information allows us to establish the next steps towards a quote for a defined scope.
Frequently asked questions
Is levelling the grass beneath the pool enough?
Appearance alone does not establish suitability. The method follows the actual model's requirements and the site's condition.
What sand depth belongs under every above-ground pool?
There is no universal figure. Before ordering materials, establish the manufacturer's instructions and the solution for the site; sand is not automatically the answer for every pool.
Is this the same as excavating for an in-ground pool?
No. For an above-ground pool, you prepare a specified area for a particular structure. An in-ground pool pit has a different brief and follow-on requirements.
Can I enquire about a small area too?
Yes, we accept small above-ground pool jobs. Send dimensions, instructions, the municipality and photographs. Scope, an appropriate method and timing are confirmed against access and preparation complexity.
Need even a small pool area prepared?
Send the actual model, complete instructions and photographs of access and the location. State where earthworks should end and who accepts the area before installation.
