Three things to know
- First identify the task: dig, load or transfer.
- Mark the source, route and destination.
- Choose equipment for the entire work process.

Dig, load or transfer?
Describe the starting condition and required result. Mini excavators are used for excavation and loaders for handling loose materials, but suitability is confirmed for the actual task. SORTI has JCB 2.5 t and 5 t excavators, a 5 t wheel loader and JCB 2.5 t dumper. These labels describe equipment, not universal load capacities or productivity.
What is documented about SORTI's equipment
Equipment includes JCB excavators in the 2.5 t and 5 t classes, a 5 t-class wheel loader, a dumper and trucks. The company lists loader use for loose materials and area preparation. The particular machine is selected for the brief and access.
A loader's weight category is not its bucket volume or the quantity it loads each cycle. An excavator label does not establish access dimensions or productivity without further information. These parameters are confirmed for the equipment actually selected.
Digging, loading and transfer routes have different requirements
For excavation, provide dimensions and follow-on work requirements. For an existing stockpile, describe the material, access to it and truck position. For on-site transfer, also show the complete route and destination.
The setup depends on more than pile size. Work at the source, transport across the site and loading for removal may need combining. Plan the method around the complete brief rather than a generic ranking of machine speeds.
Photograph access from the road to the final location
Add narrow points, turns, gradients and surfaces. Identify finished areas to retain and known buried objects. One gate width does not describe movement along the entire route.
If material is leaving, address truck space and loading timing together. If it stays in the garden, define storage and any further processing. Loading or moving a pile does not automatically mean a new area is finished.

| Task | What to describe in the brief |
|---|---|
| Excavation followed by loading | Dimensioned documents, material and truck coordination |
| Loading a prepared stockpile | Material type, accessibility and truck space |
| Movement across a garden | Starting point, the whole route and destination |
| Ongoing supply | Deliveries, unloading point and subsequent work |
| Area preparation | The required final condition and supplied levels |
Example: two stockpiles beyond a narrow passage
An owner wants material loaded onto a truck at the street, but the piles are behind the house and the route has a narrow point. A photograph of the piles alone does not show how material reaches the loading area.
Once the whole route is supplied, equipment options and intermediate steps can be checked. The quote then distinguishes transfer and loading. This is not an actual project and does not determine which machine will fit through that passage.
What to prepare for a combined quote
Send the municipality, photographs of material and route, and an approximate quantity with its unit. State whether you need handling only, excavation too, or removal as well. For transported material, add origin and known mixed-in substances.
Ask about the entire scope, including equipment transport, handling and truck coordination. If unsure about machinery, describe the result rather than request a model. The actual setup and price are confirmed for site conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Must I know which machine to order?
No. Describe the task, result and access; a suitable setup will be checked for the actual conditions.
Does a 5 t loader pick up five tonnes?
No. Its weight category is neither its bucket load nor its productivity. Actual parameters need checking.
Is a loader always faster or cheaper than an excavator?
You cannot conclude that without a brief. Activities, material, access, transfers and transport coordination all matter.
Does on-site movement include removal from the property?
Only if expressly agreed. Internal transfer, loading and off-site transport are separate scope items.
Show the material's complete journey
Mark the source, any handover point and final destination. Add photographs and say whether truck delivery or removal follows.
