Loader crane delivery: what determines unloading

Load weight alone is not enough. Placement distance, vehicle standing space and conditions at both ends of the journey matter too. Prepare information for the actual handling operation.

Three things to know

  • Give details for individual items, not just a total.
  • Mark both truck position and placement point.
  • Have the actual handling operation confirmed for the site.
Contents of this guide
  1. Describe individual load items and their destination
  2. Mark vehicle and placement positions separately
  3. Vehicle payload and crane capabilities need site-specific confirmation
  4. Photograph the entire route and setup area
  5. Example: the load is needed behind the house
  6. What to compare in the quote

Describe individual load items and their destination

List each item's quantity, dimensions and documented weight. Mark the vehicle position and required handover point on a sketch. Crane capabilities depend on the actual setup and handling arrangement; a truck's weight category is not a promise of crane lifting capacity. Confirm loading and unloading conditions before the trip.

Mark vehicle and placement positions separately

On a photograph or site sketch, show where the truck should stand and where the load should end up. Add distance and any level difference. Show obstacles along the route, surrounding structures and overhead lines above the working area.

'Over the fence' is not enough information to confirm unloading. Feasibility is assessed for the actual load, vehicle position and setup conditions. Handling cannot be promised simply because the truck can reach the property.

Vehicle payload and crane capabilities need site-specific confirmation

SORTI has an Iveco Eurocargo in the 15 t weight category with a loader crane. That label is neither the available payload nor a promise of what can be lifted at any distance. The actual transport and lifting operation are assessed separately.

Send load information and the site plan together. We can clarify parameters before confirming the job. Do not copy reach, lifting capacity or attachments for another vehicle from a general catalogue into your order.

Photograph the entire route and setup area

Photographs should show access, turns, narrow points and the area where the truck will stand. Mention gradients, soft or damaged surfaces and known buried objects. Access for a car does not automatically establish access for a loaded truck.

Flag locations with continuing traffic, people or other contractors. Working-area arrangements form part of the discussion. Do not omit an obstacle on the assumption it can be resolved when the vehicle arrives.

Information for a quote. The table does not replace confirmation of the actual lift and vehicle setup.

Example: the load is needed behind the house

A customer gives an address and total delivery weight but wants materials placed at the rear of the property. Without individual item dimensions and a vehicle position, feasibility cannot be confirmed.

Before ordering, they add a sketch, access photographs and supplier information. Those details allow the transport method and unloading point to be checked. This example describes briefing, not an actual project or a guarantee of lifting over a building.

What to compare in the quote

Distinguish transport, loading, unloading and any waiting. State whether the load will be ready on arrival and who hands it over and accepts it. Define any subsequent on-site transfer or construction separately.

For an initial discussion, send both addresses, the preferred date, load details and photographs. Confirm the exact scope and price before ordering. The agreed unloading position is as important as the transport route itself.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 15 t truck carry or lift fifteen tonnes?

No. The weight category does not promise payload or crane lifting capacity. The load, transport and handling operation need assessment for the vehicle and situation.

Can you place material over a fence?

Send individual item details, the distance from the proposed vehicle position and obstacle photographs. Only then can the particular placement be assessed.

Is the total order weight enough?

Add the weight and dimensions of each item to be handled. The delivery total does not describe every required lift.

Is further movement across the garden automatically included?

Only if explicitly agreed. Define transport, unloading position and further transfers separately in the brief.

Your next step

Send an item list and handover plan

Attach documented weights, dimensions and supplier instructions. Mark the standing area and destination; we will confirm handling possibilities for the actual brief.
